Researching and Investigating Plastics:

Depending on time, student needs and familiarity with independent research students may be given a independent research task to investigate plastics or they may read the information sheet from primary connections to gain further information on the properties of plastic (Literacy).

Discuss non-biodegradable materials by asking students questions, such as:

•      What would happen if a non-biodegradable plastic bag flew off into the wind?
•      What would happen if CDs were biodegradable?
•      What are the positive things about non-biodegradable materials?
•      What are the negative things about non-biodegradable materials?
•      What is interesting about non-biodegradable materials?
•      Record students’ answers in the PMI table prepared in the class science journal
